ABOUT XCOMPANY, TEAMS & MB PHYSICAL ARTS & FITNESS

ABOUT XCOMPANY PHYSICAL ARTS & FITNESS
In the 80s, former Philippine National Dance Company professional dancer, Teresita Miller founded the South Seas Polynesian Dance Company in Winnipeg,  She instructed and toured various forms of Polynesian dance, including Hula, Tahitian and Maori throughout central Canada and some states.  Ed Miller Sr., a professional former Filipino film actor, founded Showmasters, producing Canadian tours of Filipino film and pop music artists throughout 70s-80s.  Their son, Eddie, grew up in the studio and backstage, working for the family companies and in various secular performing arts/teaching/entertainment projects into the mid 90s.

In 1991, Eddie founded and directed performance dance teams while attending bible college. In 1995, he started the Honour Guard Performing Arts Team, a men’s & boy’s mentoring-based worship dance company.  Building upon martial-arts-influenced dance, parade style flagging, BootX &  XBX (where name XCO was drawn from), HGPA presented a more masculine-martial style of movement for concerts and parades for crowds up to 50,000 (March for Jesus, MB Stampede, Red River Ex).  After hosting men’s/co-ed dance workshops around MB, HGPA soon expanded into ON, QB and once even performed on the Mexican Presidential Palace grounds.

Soon, after building a new team of staff and leaders, programs were started to be offered at secular schools, studios, professional development events, community centres and the whole venture was legally changed to XCOMPANY.  [see a shortlist of Events & Organizations near bottom of this page]

XCOMPANY promotes personal growth, community-building  and values through the arts, physical education, martial arts, fitness and leadership programs.   Strong partnerships with community-based organizations, schools and families throughout central Canada has helped XCO serve over 10,000 participants in over 100 communities through workshops, classes, programs and performances.  XCOMPANY maintains a  non-religious*, family values based orientation.

*We do not preach or force religion upon anyone, but instead choose to serve anyone, regardless of any creed, culture, ability or gender.  Likewise, we train our ‘religious’ or church-based students to do the same, challenging them to use their gifts to help others in the real world.

ABOUT MANITOBA PHYSICAL ARTS & FITNESS ALLIANCE
When it comes to you or your child’s health, it can be a gamble of ‘buyer beware.’

Currently, there is a systemic, industry-wide lack of proper kinesiology and applied health training for instructors/coaches of dance, fitness, martial arts & physical performing arts.  In other professional industries, such a lack of training would be considered negligent, unsafe, unprofessional and legally liable.  Thus students of untrained instructors often receive health misinformation, improper physical conditioning, bad training habits and lifelong chronic injuries or worse.

Any instructor must obviously proper knowledge and qualifications of the specific curricula/techniques they teach.  However, any curricula is simply incomplete without formal training in human anatomy, physiology, bioenergetics, safety, etc..  Thus, we encourage all consumers to always ask all their instructors formal health training or fitness certifications, beyond the curricula.  Consumers are soon often surprised to find out that in even some of the trendy brand name programs out there, instructors have no training…not even basic CPR.

In 2010, as a response to the need to adequately train and certify instructors in addition to their curricula expertise, MB Physical Arts and Fitness Alliance (MPF) was developed.  MPF is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to networking and helping developing instructors, teachers and various professionals in the physical arts and fitness sector.

XCOMPANY is proud to partner with MPF & canfitpro in its Instructor Training & Certification Program.
